Cleaning Stains From Your Vehicles Carpets
With the winter months fast approaching, if you don’t have additional protection on your carpets in your vehicle, you leave it prone to stains. Remnants of slush, mud and salt will saturate your carpets. Salt stains leave pesky white marks that don’t go away with just water. If you have already fallen victim to winters wrath on your vehicles carpets, here are some ways to clean them.
Removing Stains
Grab a spray bottle and mix a solution that is half warm water and half white vinegar. Vinegar is an amazing, natural cleaning agent that is very powerful. Although the smell is not that great, it does dissipate.
Generously spray the mixture on the salt stain. Grab a clean, dry towel and dab at the area where you sprayed your mixture. Press enough to pick up the stains on the surface, but not hard enough to press the stain down further into the carpet.
When this towel is completely wet, grab another towel and repeat the process if there is still liquid on the carpet.
If you have a wet/dry vacuum, after dabbing the stain you can use the vacuum to help remove the stain as well as the vinegar smell.
If the stain is stubborn and does not disappear after the first cleaning process, repeat as needed. Salt is difficult to remove but it definitely can be removed so don’t worry about being stuck with those stains! After multiple vinegar applications the stain should be gone, if not you can purchase a product that is designed for salt removal.
As mentioned before vinegar has a less than pleasant smell so be sure to air out your car by rolling down the windows after cleaning. If your floor mats can be removed, hang them up to dry and get rid of the vinegar smell.
